EDP#14

Yes folks, EDP is back in Amsterdam this February, returning to Melkweg for episode 14 with a few old friends and plenty of new faces, including UK favourites Blawan and RA’s top ten DJ of 2012, Maya Jane Coles.

Maya isn’t the only femme fatale on tonight’s bill: warming up the Max floor will be Trouw resident and local lady Sandrien, treating the techno heads to an early dose of deep and oldschool flavoured sounds before Belgium’s finest Peter van Hoesen takes up the decks. 2012 has been a busy year for Peter, with two long players out on his own Time To Express house—his sophomore LP ‘Perceiver’ and debut full length ‘Geotope’ as Sendai with partner Yves De Mey—alongside mixes for CLR, XLR8R, mnml ssgs and a genre-trotting podcast for Electric Deluxe at the start of November (listen here: (listen here).

Speedy J will be manning the Max floor peak time, but it’s Blawan who will be driving the party home. One of today’s most idiosyncratic young producers, whether it’s R&B-sampled UK bass or stringent acid-soaked techno, Jamie Roberts has consistently impressed—both solo and in recent hardware-based collaborations with The Analogue Cops and R&S label mate Pariah, as Karenn. A regular at Berghain and Panoramabar these days, you can count on a performance in every way as stellar as the Barnsley man’s superb discography.

Meanwhile, on the Oude Zaal floor 19 year-old Jelle Hamstra AKA 751, from Den Haag, will be launching festivities. Already Jelle has played at Dekmantel, Colors, Redlightradio and Pitch. This is his first time at Melkweg, but for a peek at what’s in store check out his latest all vinyl techno mix (listen here), featuring the likes of Silent Servant, ROD, Marcelus, Jeff Mills and others. He’ll be followed by another of Amsterdam’s finest: Frank Haag, member of dark house purveyors and promoters of interdisciplinary digital arts, the New Dutch School, before Maya Jane Coles jumps into the evening’s headline slot.

In a few short years the plucky Londoner has ascended to one of the most popular and much-loved house DJs—as this year’s RA poll has proven. In 2011 Maya truly fomented her production credentials with releases on Hypercolour, 20:20 Vision and Mobilee, but it was her kaleidoscopic DJ Kicks mix in April this year that has propelled her into a household name. And with the launched of her new label, I Am Me, announced at the start of December, 2013 looks to be an even bigger one yet. Finally, German veteran Redshape will close out Oude Zaal. The masked maverick has also just released his second long player, ‘Square’, on Gerd Janson’s taste making Running Back house.
