Start the new year with a bang, start the new year with Electric Deluxe Presents. The solid technoparty will shake the foundation of Melkweg in Amsterdam once again on 27^th January. The line-up of the twelfth edition has a strong Dutch presence, including the Rotterdam techno wonder-boy ROD, Dekmantel head honcho Thomas Martojo and Speedy J who will do a marathon set. Paris based Paul Ritch and the American DVS1 will also be flying in for the event.

Electric Deluxe host Speedy J is at his best if you leave him to himself for a few hours. Together with a thousand others that is. The techno producer from Rotterdam will pull an all-nighter on January 27 in the big room in Melkweg switching between DJing and a live set.

Earlier that evening you will recognise the smile of Benny Rodrigues from afar. The Dutch dj will present his new alter ego ROD, which represents his more techno orientated style. “ROD shows no mercy”, he said earlier this year about his new project. “No one will leave without bruises”.

Thomas Martojo will kick off the night in the old room. Not only is he a skilled techno-DJ, he is also one of the driving forces behind the successful Dekmantel. Both party organisation, record label and unstoppable ambassadors of the adventurous sides of dancemusic.

The foreign delegacy will consist of two big names from France and the US. Ever since his hit single Split The Line (2009) Paul Ritch has been known for his exhilarating and frivolous techno sound. In recent years he moved to a somewhat housier vibe without losing his techno roots.

If you’ve never heard of DVS1 you either live in a cave or simply don’t like Techno. The American DJ from Minneapolis has been making music for years but his productions only recently surfaced to a broader audience. His energetic DJ-sets include a lot of his own productions and are known for being both deep, exhilarating and very danceable. Last year DVS1 was picked up by techno veteran Derrick May, who released his single Love Under Pressure.

Begin het nieuwe jaar goed, begin het nieuwe jaar met Electronic Deluxe Presents. Het solide technofeest zal de fundering van de Amsterdamse Melkweg andermaal testen op vrijdag 27 januari. Het Nederlandse aandeel is op de twaalfde editie groot, met ruim baan voor de Rotterdamse ROD, Dekmantelbrein Thomas Martojo en een avondvullende set van Speedy J. Uit het buitenland vliegen Fransman Paul Ritch en de Amerikaan DVS1 over.

Gastheer Speedy J is op zijn best als je hem een paar uur alleen laat. Samen met duizend anderen in een zwetende Max. De Rotterdamse technoproducer zal op vrijdag 27 januari een avondvullende set in de grote zaal van de Melkweg verzorgen die het in het midden houdt tussen een DJ- en een liveset.
De aftrap in de Max wordt die avond verzorgd door de immer goedlachse Benny Rodrigues, die zijn alter ego ROD presenteert. In augustus dook dit stevige broertje van de Rotterdamse DJ voor het eerst op en zette direct de India-tent op Lowlands in de fik. “ROD is geen genade. Rammen tot je bont en blauw ziet”, zei hij destijds met een sardonische grijns. Kortom: techno met meer energie dan een work out met Bep van Klaveren.

In de Oude Zaal opent Thomas Martojo. Niet alleen een begenadigd techno-DJ maar ook een van de motoren achter het succesvolle Dekmantel: partyorganisatie, platenlabel en onvermoeibare ambassadeurs van avontuurlijke dansmuziek.

Uit Frankrijk komt Paul Ritch, de man achter de successingle Split The Line (2009) en het platenlabel Quartz. Zijn sound is tegelijkertijd stevig en frivool. Het is techno met een schwung zoals alleen Fransen dat kunnen. De laatste jaren is de Parijzenaar weggedreven van de uitgedoofde minimal sound en laat hij meer invloeden uit house toe in zijn sets.

Wie nog nooit heeft gehoord van DVS1, houdt niet van techno. Of heeft de afgelopen jaren in een grot geleefd. De Amerikaanse dj uit Minneapolis werd als producer pas twee jaar terug ontdekt maar maakt al jaren muziek. Onder de radar. Totdat meer en meer mensen kwamen vragen wat hij nou precies draaide. Het bleken zijn eigen producties te zijn. Technoveteraan Derrick May lette gelukkig wel op en tekende Zak Khutoretsky (zijn echte naam) voor zijn Transmat-label. DVS1’s stijl is diep, effectief en uitermate dansbaar.
