If the truth be told, we simply couldn’t help ourselves. After officially opening up for the magnanimous Movement Festival inDetroiton May 23, we’re packing up the party and bringing it all to Verboten on May 24. That’s right New York, get ready for a premier techno experience — Electric Deluxe Presents style.
A challenge to some, but here at EDLX we relish a weekend double-header. And what a privilege to be setting down in one of the hottest underground haunts inBrooklynright now. The 10,000 square foot industrial venue-turned chic super club is a fitting hold for tonight’s all-star cast of EDLX cohorts. First up we’re pleased to be joined by the Polegroup man himself, Oscar Mulero, for the first time in EDP history. A hero on home turf and revered the world over, Mulero has enjoyed a rich and genre-bending career since starting out in the 80’s as a New Wave, EBM and Gothic Rock DJ inMadrid. It goes without saying the veteran club DJ knows his way round the decks, having played in some of the most notable venues around the globe. This promises to be a special one.
Then we have Lucy, longtime member of the extended EDLX family. Recently the Stroboscopic chief has been turning heads with his much anticipated sophomore album, ‘Churches Schools And Guns’. And just before that dropping the equally well received ‘Zeitgeber’ LP, the product of anew partnership with our own Speedy J of the same name. It’s certainly been a busy time for the Italian native, not that he’s been holed up in the studio all winter. Lucy’s kept up an impressive tour schedule to match. We know he’s got plenty of stamina, which is why we’ve snagged him for the whole weekend — to man the helm tonight and at our Movement opening party.
Same goes for Subjected. The Berlin-based DJ and producer impressed us with his signature techno sound, previously only reserved for his Vault Series imprint. We managed to coax two EP’s out of him together with label mate Sawlin, and shall expect to see more to come. He’ll be bringing all the force to Verboten, expect some raw and unadulterated techno that really packs a punch. Lastly, we couldn’t host a party inNew Yorkwithout our local representative Brendon Moeller. We still can’t get enough of ‘Works’, the dub-master and veteran experimentalist’s first pure techno outing for EDLX.
As ever, the master of ceremonies, Speedy J, will take a turn at the wheels. We will also be joined by Brad Miller Verboten club resident. All in all, a bit of a showdown. See you on the floor EDLX revellers!
